What is the USGBC?
The USGBC is the Council of the Sustainable Construction of the united States in English, U. S. Green Building Council (USGBC) was founded in the year 1993. It is made up by leaders from all sectors of the construction that seek to transform the traditional building towards sustainability.
Through activities at the global level as conferences where they share knowledge on sustainable construction is that they have created programs and services for the implementation of sustainability in the sector.
Over the 29 years of this non-profit organization, we have added more than 15,000 organizations, students, volunteers from various sectors around the world, looking for a significant improvement in the quality of life.
Mission of the USGBC
The mission of the USGBC is transforming the way we design, build and operate buildings and communities towards sustainability, to achieve a social environment - environmental responsible.
Main objectives of the USGBC
- To promote technological innovation
- To promote the certification of sustainable buildings
- Efficient use of energy
- Efficient use of resources
- Use of materials from renewable resources, recyclable and non-toxic
The USGBC is the one who creates the certifications (LEED, EDGE, GRESB, Parksmart, SITES, TRUE, ' WELL) and the GBCI is the one who administers them.
What is the GBCI?
The USGBC created in 2008, GBCI Green Building Certification Institute to as an independent institution administer the certification of projects and proving professionals to the development of sustainable projects.
The GBCI administers certifications:
LEED – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. Certification for sustainable buildings. READ MORE

GRESB – Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark. Certification for the assessment of the sustainability of real estate.

TRUE – True Zero Waste. Certification that aims to have zero resuduos.
