Where is created the Paris Agreement?
The Paris Agreement was adopted at COP21 in 2015, but prior to the development of the Paris Agreement, I'll give a brief explanation of what is the COP.
COP Conference of the Parties
The Paris Agreement was adopted at COP21 in 2015, but prior to the development of the Paris Agreement, I'll give a brief explanation of what is the COP.
When he was born the COP?
The COP was born in 1994 and the first Conference of the Parties was held in march 1995 in Berlin, Germany, seat of the presidency of the COP who is also divided into 5 regions, such as the UN, Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, Central and Eastern Europe, and Western Europe.
Summits with great contributions to the mitigation of Climate Change
There are two COP where arrangements have been established worldwide to achieve the reduction of emissions:
- COP3 1997: Kyoto Protocol, in this Summit, it was agreed to the goal of reducing by 5% the emissions of the countries.
- COP21 2015: Paris Agreement, at this Summit it was agreed to reduce the temperature at the global level to no more than 2°C, taking as the date the year 2100, this agreement entered into force in the year 2020.
In all the COP, review, and monitor the decisions taken and implemented objectives.
Now that you know what it is, the COP let's talk about the COP21 and the Paris Agreement.
Paris agreement
What is the Paris Agreement?
It is an international treaty on Climate Change, adopted at the COP21 in Paris on 12 December 2015 and came into force on 4 November 2016, this treaty as adopted by 196 countries.
The Paris Agreement is considered a milestone in the process of countering climate change because for the first time an agreement is binding on all countries to achieve this goal.
Objectives of the Paris Agreement
- Limiting global warming to well below 2°C and preferably below 1.5°C, to achieve this, we must reduce emissions of CO2.
- A world carbon neutral by the end of the century.
- The amount of CO2 emitted by human activities is equal to the absorbed naturally by trees, soil and oceans.
To achieve this treaty requires a social and economic transformation, it was calculated that this agreement has a cycle of 5 years, applying climate action ambition.
In 2020, the 196 countries presented their plans for climate action calls contributions specific to the national level (NDC).
NDC Contributions Specific to the National Level
Are the steps you will take each country to reduce emissions of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) emissions in order to achieve the objectives of the Agreement was delivered of a child, in these also notify you of actions taken to build resilience to the increase of the temperature.
In the Paris Agreement were asked to countries that performed in the 2020 strategies of long-term development in order to lower the emissions of greenhouse gases, these strategies serve to plan the long-term development of countries.
The Framework of the Paris Agreement has 3 support to countries that need it:
- Financial
- Technical / Technological
- Capacity
Financial Support
The more developed countries should take the initiative to provide economic support to the poorest countries, because the investment to mitigate climate change is a large-scale.
Technology Framework
Is established to provide overall guidance to the technology mechanism to improve the resilience to climate change and reduce emissions.
Capacity building
He asks all the developed countries to increase their support to those least developed countries because they have less capacity to cope with the challenges of climate change.
Transparency framework Improved
From 2024, the country will report on the progress of the measures taken to the mitigation of climate change, this mitigation has given options to lower emissions in the energy and transport sectors.
Implement these treaties in the development of the project is our way of supporting the mitigation of Climate Change.
