LEED certification v5

In January of this year began the development of the new version of the system LEED Certification v5.

This new version will leave as a beta version to LEED v4.1, which is awaiting the approval of all the members and you will be left without the seal, but that up to the present day is taken into account for projects that certify in the version 4.

In the advances that have been released are said to be 2 the principles of this new version:

1. Inspire and recognize the built environment, adaptable and resilient.
2. To create environments in which to thrive diversity, equity and inclusion.

This new version will include points that address urgent:

• decarbonization
• human health
• protection ecological

There are plans to publish the draft for comments in February of this year.

One of the most prominent themes in the LEED Certification v5 is equity, it is possible that this is a new category, said Melissa Baker, vice-president of the USGBC.

It will create a framework on how to center equity, knowing how to integrate it in time, we know that today the construction industry is learning the language of equity and that there is a lot to learn.

One of the most important points within the equity is: to ensure the sustainable buildings to reach more people.

To promote social equity and resilience of existing buildings, opened a call in December 2022 for the registration of volunteers, of which working groups will be set which will encourage these actions.

The USGBC is to establish what kind of a risk assessment tool, you must use the computer to determine the resilience, or if the “resilience” should be a separate category or should be included in other scores.

The USGBC is in search of alternative routes that do not generate a high-cost, no investment of much time and that don't involve many disciplines, so as to make it accessible to certification for small projects.

It is said that the term recertification will be in the past and now will take it as a continuous certification.
